Dragon Boat Racing and the Festival
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 16 people paddle each 40’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Gable Events has joined with Crightons of Peterborough to bring you the tenth charity dragon boat festival to be staged on the River Nene in Peterborough. The Festival is open to everyone and up to 52 crews are expected to battle it out over the 250m race course, watched by several thousand spectators. The central Peterborough location offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair, Hereward FM roadshow, children’s activities plus food stalls and bar.

Entry Includes

•	Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment.
•	At least 3 races per crew.

•	Trophies for the top three crews, the best-placed mixed crew (minimum 7 ladies), the crew raising the most money for charity and the ‘best dressed’ crew.

Crightons of Peterborough
Crightons Ltd is the Saab and Mitsubishi dealer for the Peterborough area, and with its associated Cartell MOT World, it occupies a one and a half acre site at Dukesmead, Werrington. The site accommodates new car showrooms, a large display of used cars, state of the art workshops for Saab and Mitsubishi models, as well as the facilities for Cartell, one of the largest MOT test centres in Peterborough and its service facility for all makes and models.

The business, which started nearly 40 years ago, is still family-owned and run by Managing Director Iain Crighton and his wife, Thelma. Their daughter Michelle and her husband Dan also work in the business.

Crightons sponsor Nassington Cricket Club’s youth development programme, and have recently planted 1,500 oak trees at Crightons Wood on Thorpe Meadows. It brings the total planting on the new woodland sponsored by the company to 4,500.

Peterborough SportsAid Foundation
Peterborough SportsAid Foundation provides grants for promising young athletes in the city area to help them achieve their sporting dreams. Grants go to youngsters (able bodied and disabled) between 12 and 18. Disabled athletes of any age are considered for grants.

The local Foundation is part of the national SportsAid charity which helped medal winners like Sir Stephen Redgrave and Sally Gunnell in their early days.

They raise funds from local commerce and industry as well as from individuals through lunches with famous speakers and donations from events run by other organisations as well as the Dragon Boat Festival.
