Dragon Boat Racing and the Festival
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water
activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 16 people paddle each 40’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

Gable Events has joined with Crightons of Peterborough for the fourth successive year to bring you the 11th charity dragon boat festival to be staged on the River Nene in Peterborough. The Festival is open to everyone and up to 52 crews are expected to battle it out over the 250m race course, watched by several thousand spectators. The central Peterborough location offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair, Lite FM roadshow, children’s activities plus food stalls and bar.

Peterborough SportsAid Foundation
Peterborough SportsAid Foundation provides grants for promising young athletes in the city area to help them achieve their sporting dreams. Grants go to youngsters (able bodied and disabled) between 12 and 18. Disabled athletes of any age are considered for grants.

The local Foundation is part of the national SportsAid charity which helped medal winners like Sir Stephen Redgrave and Sally Gunnell in their early days.

They raise funds from local commerce and industry as well as from individuals through lunches with famous speakers and donations from events run by other organisations as well as the Dragon Boat Festival.
