Dragon Boat Racing and the Festival
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!

After the spectacular success of last year's Festival which raised over £30,000 for East Anglia's Children's Hospices, Gable Events has again joined with EACH to bring you the fourth East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival. Taking place on Sunday 10th May 2009 at Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, the Dragon Boat Festival is open to everyone and over 50 teams are expected to battle it out over the 250m race course, watched by several thousand spectators. With plentiful on-site parking, great facilities and ample land space for viewing and side activities, Oulton Broad and Nicholas Everett Park offer a superb venue for the Festival. As well as the colourful and exciting races, a wide range of continuous bankside entertainment including funfair, inflatable games, children's activities, food stalls and bar guarantee a fabulous day for all the family!

Standard entry includes

Dragon boats, qualified helms and all racing equipment.
At least 3 races per crew.
Family entertainment.
Souvenir programme.
Trophies for the top three crews, the best-placed mixed crew (minimum 5 ladies), the crew raising the most money for EACH and the ‘best dressed’ crew.
Medals for the top three crews.
Special Chinese buffet lunch at the China Diner restaurant in Lowestoft for the crew raising the most money for EACH.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices
East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) is a registered charity, which exists to maximise the quality of life for life-threatened children and their families.

We have three hospices within East Anglia; Milton in Cambridge, Quidenham in Norfolk and Ipswich in Suffolk which provide expert care for children who suffer from a range of conditions which means they are likely to die before they reach adulthood. We believe that helping our sick children to make the most of precious time is all important and our hospices are vibrant places offering fun, friendship, laughter and care.

This high standard of care requires funding and since we only receive 20% of our required annual income from the government, we absolutely rely on voluntary donations in order to help local children and their families make the most of their precious time together.
