Dragon Boat Racing and the Festival
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest growing water activity in Britain today - as well as the most fun! Up to 10 people paddle each 30’ boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course. No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!
Gable Events has joined with East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices to bring you the fourth charity dragon boat festival to be staged on the River Cam in Cambridge. The Festival is open to everyone and over 40 crews are expected to battle it out over the 250m race course, watched by several hundred spectators. The Ditton Meadows location offers a superb venue for racing and a fabulous day is guaranteed with plenty of bankside family entertainment including funfair, Star 107FM roadshow, children’s activities and Chinese lion dancing plus bar and food stalls.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) aims to maximise the quality of life for children and young people with a life-threatening condition, and to support their families. EACH’s three care teams provide care and support for families across East Anglia, both in the family home or in one of the hospices in Milton (Cambridgeshire), Quidenham (Norfolk) and Ipswich (Suffolk). Some children may only have a very short time to live, others may reach young adulthood, but EACH’s aim is always the same to enhance their quality of life and support their family. This high standard of care requires funding and since only 20% of the charity’s required annual income comes from the government, EACH absolutely relies on voluntary donations in order to help local children and their families make the most of their precious time together.
“It’s such a relief when one of the happy faces from EACH comes through the door to liven up my day.”
